Cam and Ben McNeil win competitive WMYA 2019 Championship

7 races were scheduled for this four day event. Only one race was missed due to light air, other than that the WMYA race committee did a stellar job getting six long races in the books thanks primarily to the ever present thermal winds coming off the Big Lake each day. This thermal wind from Lake Michigan has constantly supported West Michigan lakes with some of the finest sailing imaginable…and White Lake did not disappoint. After day one Cam and his brother Ben were tied at the top with Beulah sailors Glenn McMurray and Andrea Lee with 3 points each. At the same time there was a four way tie for third place with Schaub (Lake Maxinkuckee), Keenan (Fenton), Bosgraaf (Spring Lake) and last year’s champion Scott Harestad all with nine points. Then, slowly and consistently Cam and Ben began pulling away from the rest with strong finishes in each of the last four races. Go to the Race Schedule page for a full list of the final results.
A big thanks to the White Lake Yacht Club and their tireless volunteer staff for making this a regatta to remember! Next year…Torch Lake!
